How to choose the correct purpose code

A purpose code describes why a cross-border payment is being received.

A purpose code describes why a cross-border payment is being received. Choose the code that matches the underlying work or transaction, not simply the currency or the payment platform.

In Create new invoice, the Purpose code field appears in Step 1. Use Explore codes to review the available classifications. The client auto-withdrawal setup also asks for a purpose code, and that choice should match the service description used there.

Read the description carefully before selecting it. A code shown as a default or in a sample invoice may not apply to your business. For example, a software-related code should not be used for an unrelated service.

If two options seem plausible or your activity has changed, ask support or your professional adviser before submitting. Keep the invoice description and supporting business records consistent with the actual transaction.
